About

Hi, I’m Cat Mead, and I enjoy improving the state of the written word.

My other professional interests are landscape restoration, regenerative design, and plants.

I have a life-long interest in wild flora and fauna and have turned into a plant fanatic as an adult. I have about 300 houseplants, including 70 or so orchids, and a collection of plants outside, both ornamentals and native plants. I do my best to overwinter so-called annuals like geraniums and callibrachoa but I’ve been more or less indifferent to growing much in the way of fruit or vegetables.

I’ve been a member of the Oregon Orchid Society since 2016, the Native Plant Society of Oregon since 2013, and the Oregon Natural Desert Association since 2017. I joined the Central Oregon Bonsai club in early 2019 and now I’m seeing similarities between creating bonsai and editing: both require removal of some of what you start with, and manipulation of the rest, to reveal the primary form and beauty possible.

When I’m not doing things with plants, I read a lot of SFF, including a handful of comics, mess around with crocheting, embroidery, and the rare bit of knitting, and study various arcane subjects. A very very small sampling of my favorite authors: N. K. Jemisin, Yoon Ha Lee, and Diana Wynne Jones.

I currently live and work in the beautiful landscape of Central Oregon, which has had a hold on my heart longer than I consciously knew it.
